There is nothing we marketers love more than first-hand data, right? Instagram is one of the best places to get testimonials directly from your customers. But then you have to deal with 400 DM filling up your inbox after you ask for it…
Enter: Instagram question stickers.
The Questions Sticker for Stories collects and organizes responses and turns real reviews into valuable public content.
Here’s how to use the Instagram question sticker, along with 14 creative ideas to inspire you.
What is an Instagram question sticker?
The Instagram question sticker is an interactive form that you can insert into your Instagram story. You can customize it to include any question you want to ask your audience. Instagram users who view your story can click on the sticker to send you a short reply or message.
Instagram Story question stickers make it easy to engage your audience and also start a conversation. Answers are stored together in the History tab, not with your regular DMs.
You can publicly share sticker answers as new stories, perfect for Q&A or FAQs.
How to Use an Instagram Question Sticker: 7 Steps (with Pictures)
1. Create an Instagram Story
You can add a question sticker to any type of story, including video and photo formats. Create your Instagram story as usual by tapping the plus sign at the top and selecting Story.
2. Add a question sticker
Once you’ve created a photo or video for your story, tap the sticker icon at the top. Then click “Questions”.
3. Enter your question
Tap the “Ask me a question”placeholder to replace it with your own text. Or leave it there if you want your audience to ask you questions.
4. Place the sticker
You can move the question sticker around your story just like any other item. Pinch it inward to make the sticker smaller or outward to enlarge the sticker with two fingers.
Pro Tip: Don’t place it too close to the edges or bottom of the frame. People can skip clicking on a sticker and skip to the next story instead.
They may come back to try again, but may decide it’s not worth it and move on. Maximize the number of responses by making it as easy as possible for people.
5. Share your story
That’s all!
6. Check Your Answers
After five seconds, check for answers. Joking! Don’t get hung up: your question sticker will collect answers for the full 24 hours your story is live, and you can still see them after your story expires. You don’t have to worry about missing people.
To see the answers, open Instagram, then click on your profile photo to open your story.
You can scroll until you reach the question sticker, or scroll up to scroll faster.
Swipe up to see replies sorted from newest to oldest. Click “View All”to view all replies so far.
7. Share answers
Tap a reply to reply either publicly with Share Response or privately with Message @username.
When you respond publicly, the response becomes part of your story. Behind it, you can create any Story – video, photo, text, etc.
It won’t include the sender’s photo or username, but they will receive an in-app notification that you’ve answered their question.
Want to share more than one answer?
Take screenshots of all the answers you want to share. Go to your phone’s photo editor and crop each screenshot so that only the question sticker you want remains.
Create a new story, then add each cropped screenshot to it by tapping the sticker icon and selecting the photo option.
One of the downsides of this method is that no one will receive a notification that you have shared your answer, as if you had followed the first method.
You’ll see “Replied”for those you’ve shared or posted, which is useful if multiple people manage your Instagram account.
8. Optional: Check responses after your story expires.
More than 24 hours have passed and your Story has disappeared? Don’t worry, you can check the answers to the stickers with questions from your archive at any time (if you have enabled the story archive feature in settings).
Tap the 3-line menu at the top right, then go to Archive. Scroll until you see your story with a question sticker. Tap it, then swipe up to see all the answers.
14 creative Instagram question stickers for brands
1. Run questions and answers
Yes, you can use the questions field to collect questions from the audience, not just answers to your own questions.
Instagram question stickers are a very easy way to post questions and answers as it is so easy for your audience. Add a question sticker to your stories and then publicly reply to the answers so everyone can learn something.
As a company, B Corporation is about values. Their certification program is one of the best known for verifying the social and environmental commitment of its members.
By asking their audience to recommend people who do great work, they bridge the gap between their corporate purpose and values and the community at large.
3. Organize a takeover
Instagram takeovers can boost your engagement and grab attention. Adding a question sticker is a good starting point for your guest to start creating content, and your audience will love the opportunity to interact directly with someone they look up to.
Of course, this should make sense for your brand. As a regular sports sponsor, Redbull knew their audience would love this takeover by Olympic skier Eileen Goo.
4. Get feedback on a product or service
Sometimes your customers may have a simple question about a product but don’t need to know enough to contact customer support. Or the potential customer is almost ready to buy, except for one thing they want to know first.
Instagram question stickers are the perfect way to engage these people. Glossier’s social team received responses from company executives and skincare experts, adding credibility and transparency to their responses.
5. Get stupid
Your social networks don’t have to be completely venal and don’t have to swell. Have fun from time to time. Isn’t that what it means to be “social”?
Ask your followers about something unrelated to your products. Not to collect data about their personality type so you can tailor better ads for them, but just for some good old-fashioned conversation.
Bonus: Take a screenshot of your story and share it as a post to spark even more conversations in your main feed.
6. Create buzz around the launch
Tease a new product or store location in your stories and let your audience guess what it is or when it will be launched. Or announce a new product and ask people to come up with reasons why they’re excited about it to create social proof before it’s even available.
It can also be an opportunity to clarify the details of your launch, such as hours of operation, location, or all the other little details that people may miss at first. Save them as a temporary note while the launch is in progress.
7. Save answers in the FAQ section
Save time by responding to direct messages and give your customers 24/7 access to the information they need by creating a FAQ section. Add previous stories from your archive where you answered a common question.
Better yet, post Instagram stories every month or two to ask your audience if they have any questions and add new ones to the FAQ.
What’s the easiest way to make sure this happens? Plan ahead for your Instagram stories with reels, carousels, and more.
8. Get to know your audience
People love to talk about themselves. Give them the opportunity to do so, and you’ll get increased engagement rates and potentially valuable marketing data if you ask something related to your business.
Penguin knows their audience is book lovers. It’s relevant to ask what they’re reading now, but it can also be a good follow up to talk about their upcoming book releases or encourage subscribers to sign up for the launch mailing list.
9. Influencer Marketing Campaigns
Most Instagram influencer campaigns require a feed post, video, and/or story. As part of this, ask your influencer to include a question sticker in your story.
Let your influential partner answer the incoming questions. By responding with your unique voice, you build trust between your audience and you.
10. Test Your Customers’ Knowledge
Turn the key features of your product or service into a fun quiz. You can use a combination of poll stickers (for quick taps with multiple choice answers) and question stickers (for text/free responses) to create a series of Instagram stories that highlight key marketing messages.
Best of all, it doesn’t matter if people answer correctly. Share the right answers and (politely) admit the wrong ones to teach everyone. Save the quiz as a story highlight for maximum coverage. Then automatically turn this selection into a coil. Boom.
11. Answer questions live
Live streams are effective in reaching your audience (30% of people watch at least one live stream every week) and also effective in converting them. Nothing showcases your authentic experience better than going live.
Use Instagram question stickers to collect questions either before a live stream or during a live stream. By posting it in advance, you will immediately start a live broadcast with valuable information. You can also share it on your profile (and other social accounts) to direct people to your stories to ask a question.
When you’re live, users can ask questions in the normal chat bar that pops up on their screen, but it’s easy to lose sight of them.
To see questions live, you must first post a story with a question sticker, and then start streaming. You can scroll and select the questions to be answered that appear on the screen for your viewers. After the live broadcast , upload the video and use it in the future on social networks or other marketing materials.
12. Get Leads
When posting a Q&A about your business or when someone asks you about your products, use this as an opportunity to direct people to your lead magnet or landing page.
You can even encourage such responses by asking probing questions, such as “What is the biggest business challenge right now?” or “Are you struggling with [state what your product/service solves]?” When answering questions, give real advice and insert a link to a related subscription, event, or other entry in your sales funnel.
It’s old school and it works.
13. Host a contest
Instagram contests are a powerful engagement stimulator. Photo caption contests are popular because they’re easy to enter, and all those extra comments are great for your scores.
We’ve all seen posts like this:
But this type of contest works even better with Instagram question stickers. All your entries will be in one place, and all these actions will help your stories appear in the algorithm faster.
Make a question sticker to collect signatures like here (except signature requests, of course).
Share your favorites publicly while the contest is still running to get more entries, then post the winner.
14. Ask people what they want
Sometimes it’s just better. Just ask your audience what they want to see.
If you’re attending a local event or industry trade show and covering it on Instagram, use a question sticker for your views to tell you what to show them.
