But if you don’t find the right hashtags for Reels, this great opus may never reach the audience it deserves.
Get ready to attract more likes, fans and share with the best Reel hashtags for Instagram.
(And if you’re new to Reels? Here’s your crash course.)
Best Instagram Reels Hashtags for 2022
A good collection of hashtags on your Instagram Reel is the key to getting your content discovered.
For example, I would never have found this bagel video without those helpful #brunch hashtags. (Thanks to the Instagram algorithm for tracking my behavior and correctly identifying me as a carb hound!)
That being said, it’s important to understand that Instagram Reels is a different beast than the main feed. Like my brows (and your brows too, take it!), these two formats are sisters, not twins. Our video on the Instagram Reels algorithm highlights some of the differences:
So even if you’ve honed the perfect length for your Instagram captions; even if you know exactly which hashtags are best for your pumpkin patch photo shoots; even if you’ve obsessively researched how many hashtags are perfect for launching a cool new soda for dogs… Instagram reels require a slightly different strategy with a unique set of trend-worthy hashtags.
What are these hashtags? I’m so glad you asked! Submission: A copy-paste-ready list of specific hashtags that can be used for your fitness videos, funny videos, travel videos, food videos, and fashion videos. And you know what? Just for fun, you’ll also find some versatile attention grabbing tags.

Why use hashtags on Instagram Reels?
Even if your followers are already raving (see what I did there?) with your exceptional creative Instagram content, having a solid hashtag strategy will help you gain new followers and maximize your impact. Even if you’re just sticking a few in your video’s title, you’re giving your video a chance to go further than your own followers.
Your videos will appear in search results and in the news feed.
Hashtags are one of the most effective ways to expand your Instagram reach and grow your audience. This is what allows interested users to find (and fall in love with!) your artwork.
Say you’re a fashion brand with a chic new cape collection (dream). Capture fast runway moves, create cool videos and add the hashtag #witches to them. You instantly placed your video among other hot witchy content: a business move is stronger than any spell.
Your videos may appear in users’ feeds
Users can also follow hashtags, which allows your Instagram posts with the hashtags to appear in their feeds even if they don’t specifically follow your Instagram account. The right hashtag can be the key to getting your content seen by people who aren’t actively searching for the term. Cha ching!
Here is another example related to food. Tag your video with #sandwich and your top content will be served on a platter to anyone who subscribes to this delicious tag.
You will involve your community
Instagram hashtags can be a great way to communicate your brand values - for example, when you tag your hot coats with #witches, the world now knows that your brand is bold and fun, and that your fall collection is ready to go from runway to runway. coven in one fell swoop.
Original hashtags can also be a way to encourage followers to interact with your brand. A branded hashtag can help fans connect with each other and provide you with plenty of user-generated content to use.
Of course, there is no need to invent a community or a movement from scratch. You can also use existing hashtags to connect with communities that are already thriving online. For example, if you want to connect with Instagram’s literary elite (that is, people who never stop bragging about reading real paper books), tag your related posts as #bookstagram to join the conversation.
How to find the right Reels hashtags for your brand
There are more hashtags that can be used than there are words in the English language. For example, some of them are emojis, and if a picture is worth a thousand words… well, do the math. How do you know where to start and, just as importantly, where to stop?
The right hashtags will lead you to relevant people (and hopefully many). The wrong ones can mislead your target audience or attract trolls…not the funny ones with belly button jewels, as I learned the hard way.
Sure, there is room for experimentation with hashtags, but starting with a little research to find the right hashtags for your brand will at least get you headed in the right direction.
Keep track of what your audience is doing
What hashtags are your followers using in their content? What pops up over and over in the subcultures that are relevant to your demographics? Click on existing community hashtags to showcase your Instagram videos to your target market.
A social media listening tool like Hootsuite is a great way to follow your dream audience. You are not spying! You listen!

I’m not saying you have to be a copycat (which, as any second grader knows, is the greatest crime). But you can learn a lot from watching what your industry peers are doing.
Take a look at the hashtags your competitors are using with social media competitive analysis. Mark what works and what doesn’t to get tips that can form the basis of your own social media strategy. Learn from others and you will become the best. (Not a saying, but that’s how it should be.)
Use third party hashtag generators
Sites like For Display Purposes Only track trending videos (and trending hashtags) extensively and can be a good resource for word brainstorming. (For more suggestions on hashtag generators, see our How to Hashtag guide here.)
However, before you copy and paste all the suggested terms, be sure to do your homework and research how many hashtags will optimize your reach: there are some suggestions that you might have too much of a good one.
Getting likes and followers with Instagram Reels starts, of course, with great content: videos that are educational or entertaining, videos that look great and represent your brand authentically. But if you’re making these quality videos in a vacuum, what’s the point? Use the right Instagram Reels hashtags to get access to your content.
Investing time and effort into implementing an Instagram Reels strategy will pay off in more than just views. A successful video can also help boost your overall engagement on a social media platform.
