5 ways to know if someone has blocked you on iMessage

Am I blocked on iMessage? The question that pops into your mind when your friend or acquaintance takes a particularly long time to answer…

Of course, it is possible that the recipient is busy or has network problems. But how could you know for sure?

While there is no specific way to find out the truth, there are some signs or ways to know if someone has blocked you on iMessage. Let’s go through these tricks one by one.

1. Check iMessage bubble color on iPhone

Even if you are blocked from iMessage, the message will be sent as usual; That’s why it’s so hard to know if you’re blocked or not.

Apple uses a blue text bubble for iMessage and a green text bubble for SMS. When iMessages fails to get through and Send as SMS is enabled, the iPhone resends the message over cellular.

So if green text bubbles suddenly appear in your chat history and it says “Send as text message”below the message instead of blue, that’s a clue.

However, this can also happen due to network issues at the other end. Let’s move on to the next step for more clarity.

2. Check iMessage delivery status

Whether you’re using an iPhone, iPad, or MacBook, iMessage shows a read receipt or delivered notifications for recently sent messages if they’re enabled for your contact, that is. But if you don’t see that status, here’s a second possible strike.

Again, this can also happen when Do Not Disturb is enabled on the receiver. When they turn off Do Not Disturb, they receive a delivery notification. Thus, if the status is not updated on your part even after a while, you may end up on the blocked list.

3. Call or FaceTime the person who blocked you.

If someone blocks you, you won’t be able to send them an iMessage, make a call, or make a FaceTime call. The next step to check if your number is blocked is to call.

Interestingly, when you call the blocker, the phone only rings once and then switches to voicemail or goes offline. With FaceTime, it will appear that the recipient has instantly rejected the call.

This can also happen due to network issues and DND mode. To find out the real status, you may have to call the person again after a while.

If you are blocked, the same thing will happen every time you try to call.

4. Turn off caller ID on iPhone and call the blocker.

Desperate times call for desperate measures! Either call the person from the alternate number, or turn off your caller ID and forward the call.

To turn off caller ID:

  1. Open Settings → scroll down and tap Phone.
  2. Click “Show my caller ID”and turn it off to turn it off.

If a person responds to this call, the sad result is quite clear.

Note. This feature is not available in all countries, so you won’t be able to use this method.

5. Double check WhatsApp messages

The most audacious trick of all. Usually, when someone blocks you on one platform, they will do the same on other social networks or communication platforms.

Send a WhatsApp message and use these tricks to find out if you are blocked. The method offers a win-win solution. You’ll either find out that you’ve been blocked, or you can directly ask a friend why they’re not replying to you on iMessage.

Being blocked by someone can be very painful, but it’s wise to let others make their own decisions. So, I advise you to find out if you are blocked by someone in iMessage or not and then respect their privacy.
