Season 2 of MW2 introduced the new SR system in Ranked Play, but how exactly can you get more SR? With all the new additions that have arrived in ranked play, this can get a little tricky to understand. Especially if you’re new to competitive rank-based multiplayer games.
How to Increase SR in MW2 Ranked Play
At first glance, getting more SR in a ranked game for MW2 is quite simple. “You gain CP when you win and you lose CP when you lose.”said lead game designer Lawrence Metten. This is obvious and true, but there are other levels. There are more factors that determine the increase and decrease in SR.
The point is that your CP does not increase or decrease by the same amount in each match. The amount is determined by a number of factors. These include your division, the SR of your teammates, the SR of your opponents, your in-game performance, etc.
These things are combined for the game to determine your HPR or latent performance range. Let’s look into this more.
What is Hidden Performance Range (HPR)
In addition to SR, MW2 Ranked has a system that allows the game to set an HPR, or hidden performance range, for each player. Your HPR determines where the game thinks your rank should be. And it depends on your performance compared to your team and opponents.
“Beat players with a higher HPR than you and your HPR will go up, fall short and fall short. Work consistently and your HPR will narrow.” Lawrence Mitten explained. Basically, you get more SR for victories when you are away from your HPR. And you get less SR if you are close or on the threshold of HPR.
This explains why you may notice that you have a lot of SR in lower divisions, but less SR when you reach a higher division. In conclusion, all you have to do is show your best and be a team player to keep getting CP.
