Nintendo Switch: Hybrid console outpaces PS4 sales

Nintendo Switch becomes the third best-selling console of all time with over 122 million copies sold worldwide.

According to Nintendo’s latest financial results, the Switch managed to surpass the PS4’s 117.2 million, as well as the Game Boy’s 118.69 million. As a result, the Nintendo Switch is now ranked as the third best selling console of all time behind the Nintendo DS and PS2. At the moment, DS and PS2 are 154.02 million and 158.70 million, respectively. If it once seemed unbelievable that the Nintendo Switch could beat them, now the stakes are off.

However, Nintendo Switch sales have been declining for quite some time, and by Christmas they were down 21.3% from the previous year. This is partly due to the lack of components, and Nintendo recently revealed that it plans to increase production this year. Regardless, with software sales also down 4%, it’s time for the Kyoto firm to brace for the Switch’s future with a new console rather than a simple version, especially as Nintendo lowered its forecasts for the second straight quarter.

Best Selling Nintendo Switch Games

Since the launch of the Nintendo Switch in 2017, 994 million games have been sold, more than any other Nintendo console (the DS sold the closest with 948.7 million games).
