Sans is one of the most popular video game characters to appear in Undertale. Aside from all the monsters you’ll encounter, Sans seems like a tough dude. I mean, look at him, he’s a skeleton who wears a jacket and shorts. Getting to know this character is a fun experience in itself. That being said, let’s take a closer look at Sans, the Skeleton.
Who is Sans in Undertale?
He is the brother of another famous monster, Papyrus from Undertale. Our protagonist meets Sans for the first time in the Snowdin Forest area. This is the second region you will encounter after exiting the ruins. While Papyrus seems like a hardworking character in Undertale, Sans is the complete opposite. If you are on good terms with him, he will constantly play pranks on you or make witty jokes.
One of Sans’s most notable traits is his affection for his loved ones. Even though he is a mischievous character, Sans will never harm you if you are his good friend. For those who don’t know, Sans also performs as a comedian at the MTT resort.
Fun fact: if you don’t kill Papyrus, Sans will invite you to the MTT Resort restaurant for dinner. In the meantime, he will share his story of how he met Toriel. In addition, Toriel is friends with Sans, and as per the promise he made to her, he will protect any Human who enters the Dungeon.

Undertale evolves based on the choices you make. As you know, in Undertale there are 3 ways in which you can go through the ending. If you choose to take the Neutral and True Pacifist route, Sans will act as a support character. Whereas, if you choose to use the Genocide Route, Sans will be the final boss in Undertale.
In Genocide Route, you will destroy all the monsters and, ultimately, Papyrus. It is for this reason that Sans will appear as the final boss in Undertale.
How to beat Sans in Undertale?
Sans is the strongest boss you will face in this RPG. Defeating Sans at the end of the genocide route depends on how accustomed you are to the controls. There are repetitive stages where you have to save the heart from the bones. The only wise thing to do at this stage is not to accept Mercy from Sans. Since he is a prankster, the Mercy you expect is one of his tricks.
He will try to offer Mercy at the end of each stage, but make sure you don’t accept him. Instead, you can use this precious time to heal.
