Amazon launches Bedrock, cloud service for generative AI

Amazon launches Bedrock, a cloud service for generative artificial intelligence. Platform for working with many existing models.

Amazon gets into the bathtub with generative artificial intelligence (AI). Bedrock is the name of the giant’s new API for Amazon Web Services (AWS) that allows developers to use and customize AI tools to generate text or images. Think of it as a cloud-based customizable alternative to ChatGPT and DALL-E 2 OpenAI aimed at enterprises and developers.

AWS customers can use Bedrock to write, develop chatbots, summarize text, classify images, and more with simple text prompts. The platform gives users the choice between the Amazon Titan Foundation (FM) model and several models from various startups, including Anthropic Claude (a ChatGPT competitor funded in part by Google and developed by former OpenAI employees), AI21 Jurassic-2 (a specialized language model in Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and Dutch) and Stable Diffusion (a very popular open source image generator). Additionally, according to CNBC, companies and developers can customize the behavior of their models — data that Amazon says won’t be used to train models.

Amazon sees this variety of AI models as a real flexibility offering to its customers. According to the description made by the American giant: “With Bedrock’s serverless experience, you can get started quickly, customize FM with your own data, easily integrate and deploy it to your applications using AWS tools and other features you’re already familiar with. c (including integration with Amazon SageMaker machine learning features such as experiments to test different models and pipelines to drive your FMs) without having to manage any infrastructure.”

Platform to work with many existing models

“Most companies want to use these great language models, but it takes billions of dollars and years to train really good models. Most companies don’t want to go through this,”Amazon CEO Andy Jassi told CNBC. “So they want to start with a base model that is already big and interesting and that they can then customize to suit their needs. And that’s exactly what Bedrock offers.”

Amazon says C3.ai, Pegasystems, Accenture and Deloitte are already among the first customers to try Bedrock. The company has not yet announced pricing for this new tool, but has opened a waiting list. If you are interested, you can learn more and request access on the dedicated site.
