Soon a Samsung smartphone that folds in three? What can we expect from such a device?
Samsung continues to lead the foldable smartphone segment, having created the same segment in 2019. In 2023, the brand is offering two different devices: the Galaxy Z Fold, which folds vertically, and the Galaxy Z Flip, which folds horizontally. If these two form factors were successful for the South Korean giant, then the latter has been exploring other ideas for some time. And some rumors even suggest that an entirely new concept could arrive in 2023.

Indian insider Yogesh Brar provided information about Samsung’s projects for this year. According to him, the giant would not be very interested in the idea of launching the Galaxy S23 FE in 2023. Yogesh Brar does not give specific explanations on this issue, but adds that the manufacturer could release a smartphone that folds three times. this year, along with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z 5 Flip. He also claims that Flip and Fold will continue to offer various improvements.
As for this tri-fold device, Yogesh Brar is unable to share details, specifications or price. At the same time, Samsung has been experimenting with these form factors for several years, the latter is just one of them.
What can we expect from such a device?
Since we don’t have any images or details about this rumored triple foldable Samsung smartphone, we can only speculate. We can get some clues by looking at what the Samsung Display division has been offering over the years. In 2015, the South Korean giant filed for a patent detailing such a cooker, but it is not known if the concepts presented in this patent will ever hit the market.
Samsung last showed off foldable OLED screens at CES 2023 earlier this year. A new type of OLED panel called Flex Hybrid OLED was presented at the company’s booth. The unique ability of this screen is that it can be folded on one side and rolled up on the other. The screen that caused a stir at CES is 10.5 inches when folded. And when fully open, it measures 12.4 inches.
On top of that, Samsung also introduced the world to a screen that folds into three with two hinges. One of them allowed folding inward, the other outward. The future will show which of its mechanisms Samsung intends to use in this alleged triple-fold smartphone. In any case, if this new device sees the light, it will be another important step in this market.
There is no Galaxy S23 FE in the development chain, contrary to what recent rumors have indicated.
Instead, Samsung is working on the improved Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 along with the Tri-Fold, both of which may arrive later this year.
