Everest brings breathtaking app launch animations to the home screen

There are several different ways you can spice up your home screen to make it more interesting, such as the AppColorClose (iOS 12+) add-on we showed you yesterday. But if you want more, check out another free jailbreak tweak called Everest by iOS developer Christopher Anderson.

Everest is an attractive add-on that applies random or user-selected animations to app icons on the home screen whenever you click on them to launch them.

In some cases, the icons may rotate, while in others they may shrink, flip, or wiggle. Since the activity is randomized, you never know what you’ll get, which makes the process exciting.

We will mention one thing, due to the nature of the setting, you will experience a slight delay when launching applications. While most of us are used to instantly launching an app when we click on an icon, Everest displays a pre-launch animation immediately after clicking on the app icon. The delay takes a little getting used to, but there is a workaround.

Everest is completely self-contained and randomizes the animation for you right out of the box, but if you prefer more precise control, you can go to the customization options panel to tweak it further:

Here you can:

  • Turning Everest on and off on request
  • Adjust the duration of the animation with the slider
  • Choose between randomized animations or choose one of 16 animations for permanent use.

The animation duration feature allows you to change the delay we discussed earlier, but keep in mind that even a small delay is a delay that will be felt.

At the time of this writing, we were having problems displaying the settings bar in our Settings app, so we’re guessing this is a bug in the v1.0.0 release that will be fixed in the future for people with a similar issue.

If you’re interested in trying out the new Everest setup, you can download it for free from the Havoc repository through your favorite package management app. The tweak supports jailbroken iOS 14, 15, and 16 devices, and no-root support is just around the corner.
