Elon Musk, who has been very critical of artificial intelligence (AI) lately, seems to want to prepare something important in this area. According to The Wall Street Journal and The Financial Times, Elon Musk has created a new company called X.AI Corp. According to documents filed with the relevant authorities last month, this company is registered in Nevada, its sole director is Elon Musk, and its secretary is Jared Burchall. The American multibillionaire has an affinity for the letter X, he even recently renamed Twitter Inc. at X Corp.

Elon Musk is also not alien to projects related to artificial intelligence. For example, he co-founded OpenAI before leaving about 10 years ago. However, after ChatGPT’s skyrocketing popularity, the entrepreneur called for regulation of the technology and even signed an open letter urging major tech leaders to take a six-month hiatus from development. The magazine explains that Elon Musk was convinced that ChatGPT suffered from political bias. He even commented on the “danger of teaching AI to wake up”and that he wanted to create AI models that “seek the truth”.

However, at the moment, Elon Musk’s plans for X.AI Corp are still unclear. It’s hard to tell if he’s aiming to create a real competitor to ChatGPT or something else. While details are scarce so far, previous reports suggest the entrepreneur is stepping up these efforts for AI in general. Specifically, in March, he hired two former DeepMind researchers, including Igor Babushkin, to oversee this new project. Elon Musk has also bought at least 10,000 AI GPUs from one of Twitter’s data centers. Moreover, according to The Times, he is already in talks with investors from Tesla and SpaceX to invest in this new company.
