How to View Calendar Events on the Lock Screen or Today View on iPhone and iPad

This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to use widgets to easily view upcoming calendar events in Today View or Lock Screen on iPhone or iPad, saving you time and keeping you organized.

The basics for adding a calendar widget to the Today View, Home Screen, or Lock Screen are the same as adding any other iOS widget. We have dedicated tutorials explaining it all:

  • How to use Today View and Notification Center
  • How to Use Widgets on the iPhone Lock Screen (Complete Guide)
  • How to Add, Edit and Remove Home Screen Widgets on iPhone

After adding the widget, you can access your upcoming events or quickly view your calendar from the Today view or even from your locked phone. Let me recap.

View your calendar in Today view or on the lock screen

  1. Swipe right on the first home screen to go to the Today view.
  2. Scroll through existing widgets and click Edit at the bottom.
  3. Click the plus (+) button in the upper left corner of the screen.
  4. Scroll down and click Calendar.
  5. Starting with iOS 16, Apple offers five types of calendar widgets in different sizes. Three of them show your next events; while the fourth puts a real calendar in a widget, helping you keep track of the day of the month; and a fifth widget presents your upcoming events in a handy, compact list view. Depending on your needs, click “Add Widget”below the desired widget. Note that you can add more than one calendar widget to the Today view.
  6. Finally, click Done.

Now that you have successfully added the calendar widget to the Today view on iPhone, it can be seen in three ways:

  • Swipe right on the first home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
  • Swipe down from the top middle of an unlocked iPhone or iPad, then swipe to the right to access the Today view with calendar widgets.
  • Wake up your iPhone with one touch or raise it until the screen lights up. Now swipe right on the lock screen to see the calendar widgets.

Touching any widget will take you directly to the iOS Calendar app.

Apart from the above approach, you can also add a tiny next event calendar widget to your lock screen, just below the time.

And finally, if you are using any third party calendar app, it most likely supports widgets. So, follow the steps above to add their widget to the Today View.
