The latest version of Nvidia’s AI-powered Deep Learning Super Sampling technology updates the developer tool.
For at least five years, Nvidia DLSS has helped revolutionize neural graphics in PC gaming. It intertwines AI and graphics to create an accelerated graphics rendering pipeline that learns from data. Deep Learning Super Sampling uses GeForce RTX AI and Tensor Cores to increase frame rates while delivering crisp, high-quality images that rival native resolution. While many games support Nvidia DLSS 3, Nvidia technology is now integrated into the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine and supports the DLSS Frame Generation plugin, making it more accessible to developers around the world.
Matt Wuebbling, VP of Marketing for GeForce at Nvidia, said:
Neural graphics have revolutionized gaming since its introduction with NVIDIA DLSS, and now we’re taking it to the next level. PC gaming super franchises such as Diablo, Forza Horizon and Bethesda’s new Redfall set the bar high for visual quality with stunning graphics, while the use of DLSS makes gameplay as smooth as paper.
Nividia’s DLSS becomes more accessible to developers
Nvidia will make the DLSS Frame Generation plugin publicly available during GDC 2023 in San Francisco, allowing more developers to integrate frame rate acceleration technology into their games and applications. DLSS frame generation will be available through Nvidia Streamline, an open source cross-vendor platform that makes it easy to integrate ultra-high resolution technologies into 3D games and applications.
DLSS technology is constantly improving thanks to continuous learning on the Nvidia AI supercomputer. The public release will include the latest improvements made to DLSS earlier this year, including:
- DLSS frame generation makes better use of game engine data, improving UI stability and image quality during fast motion.
- DLSS Super Resolution enhances the Ultra Performance mode, delivering more consistent detail and better overall image quality.
- DLAA improves image quality, reduces ghosting, and improves edge smoothness in high contrast scenarios.
Epic Games integrates Nvidia DLSS 3 with Unreal Engine 5
Epic Games’ Unreal Engine graphics engine is an open and advanced real-time 3D graphics development tool that gives developers and game creators the freedom and control to deliver state-of-the-art real-time 3D content, interactive experiences, and immersive virtual worlds. The DLSS 3 plugin will be available in version 5.2 for the EU, allowing any developer to improve the performance of their game or application.
Nick Penwarden, Vice President of Engineering at Epic Games, added:
Nvidia DLSS 3 introduces some truly impressive imaging technology, and the Unreal Engine 5.2 plugin will provide developers with a great choice to improve the quality and performance of their games.
