If you haven’t lived under a rock, you’ve probably heard of the progress on the Linus Henze Fugu15 jailbreak derivative, currently called Fugu15 Max. We’ve been tracking the progress of this tool for a few weeks now, as it looks like it will have a positive impact on the jailbreak community.
Fugu15 Max project lead developer opa334, the same talented developer who introduced the TrollStore permanent signature utility to the community, released the first public beta of Fugu15 Max early Wednesday morning. This move was first noted in an announcement posted on /r/jailbreak.
Fugu15 Max is the working title of a beta jailbreak based on Fugu15 that fixes some of the major issues with Fugu15 in its base form, including the lack of tweak support and the dreaded Wi-Fi bug. It supports arm64e devices (with A12 chip or later) running iOS or iPadOS 15.0-15.4.1.
Referring to the notes in the /r/jailbreak post, opa334’s decision to release the first public beta this morning was made after someone who opa334 gave a copy to was leaked to. ipa of Fugu15 Max semi-private developer beta. Apparently it was an unfortunate situation where an unscrupulous player abused opa334’s trust by forcing opa334 to release an unfinished project before it could be completed.
We sympathize, as opa334 really wanted the general public’s first impression of the Fugu15 Max to be a good one with a great user interface, and that obviously won’t come from the incomplete public beta.
Since the tool is now open to the general public, there are a few things you should know on the GitHub page:
Notes (IMPORTANT):
– The final jailbreak will have a different name – Update debianutils before updating dash – Use ElleKit deb here now to deploy the tweak (repository coming soon) – User space reload is not supported – You need to manually restart the processes you want to inject data into after the jailbreak – Some things may not work correctly, don’t expect stability, currently we can’t evaluate this until user space reload is implemented and the whole system won’t get hooked – god knows what else – default password for: (need to install openssh from package
root
manageralpine
)Groundless notes:
– No existing unrooted package will work – Repositories and package maintainers should add support for unrooted – Virtually no packages currently available
It is important to note here that many jailbreak tweak developers have not yet updated their jailbreak tweaks to support non-rooted dynamics, but some have. Additionally, repository managers need to implement support for non-rooted dynamics, which only Chariz and Havoc have confirmed so far. Thus, the number of jailbreak tweaks that will work on Fugu15 Max using ElleKit’s tweak injection method is limited.
Note that opa334 didn’t want this jailbreak to be known to the general public, but that prompted him to release a public beta before it was ready anyway. As a result, opa334 will only support developers of jailbreak tweaks.
Regular users who go ahead against all reasonable advice do so at their own risk and are strongly advised to wait for the official public release instead. You have been warned.
