Sega drops E3 2023

Japanese publisher Sega is ditching American shows like Nintendo, Microsoft and Ubisoft.

Concern about the future of E3 2023 continues to grow… Like other major players in the video game industry, Sega will not be participating in the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2023, while rumors that the triumphant return of the most important event in the world of video games may finally not take place next June at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Sega and Tencent will skip E3 2023, and there are rumors that the return of the biggest gaming event may not happen at all. This follows PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo and Ubisoft pulling out of the show. https://t.co/539rEaa9cH pic.twitter.com/hhz2lqMUMd

A spokesperson for Sega said:

After careful consideration, we have decided not to participate as an exhibitor at E3 2023. We look forward to sharing more information about announced and unannounced projects in the future.

Tencent is also reporting E3 2023, which is expected to be followed by Bandai Namco.

Chinese giant Tencent has confirmed through a spokesperson that Level Infinite will not be participating in E3 2023. While Bandai Namco is unwilling to provide an update on E3 2023 just yet, the Japanese publisher has nonetheless confirmed that it will be participating in Play. Days, a physical media event in Los Angeles hosted by Geoff Keighley (creator of the Game Awards and Summer Game Fest). Electronic Arts, Square Enix, Embracer Group, Activision Blizzard, Epic Games, Take-Two Interactive and Warner Bros Games may soon announce their withdrawal from E3 2023.

Devolver Digital, who has never officially attended E3 but moved into a nearby parking lot for several years in a row, shared this:

While we always encourage the success of any industry gathering that promotes great games, we’ve never officially attended E3 and unfortunately don’t plan to do so this year. We also confirm that we will not be hosting satellite events in Los Angeles this year, but look forward to returning to our favorite parking lot to do so should the opportunity arise. We are pleased to announce that we have made significant progress with the release of our annual Devolver Direct scheduled for next June, which we will update you shortly.

E3 2023 Shouldn’t Confront Video Game Industry Rejection

Two months before E3 2023, the atmosphere around the show is very different from what it was in previous years. At a time when companies are usually preparing to announce their major conferences and business people, the media and the public have to book their trips, the question of whether the show will take place is always on the table…
