As you know, Dredge has several categories of Pisces. The bottom line is that you need to upgrade your rod in order to be able to catch fish of different categories. Abyssal is one such category of fish that becomes available when you have an Abyssal type rod. Having one of these wands is really important to progress in the game. How to get a deep rod (sampling device) in Dredge
In Dredge Sampling Device, this is the upgrade you need to catch Abyssal Fish. You unlock it for the first time after completing the Research Fellow chase. That being said, you will need to collect all the samples in order to successfully complete this challenge. Here is how you can complete this quest and access Abyssal for your fishing rod in Dredge.
- Head to the Old Fortress (map location – D5) in the Star Pool.
- Interact with the researcher to start chasing the research assistant.
- Collect three fish specimens for the researcher: aurora jellyfish, firefly squid, and glowing octopus.
- After giving these 3 fish (one after the other), go to the research outpost in the North Star Pool.
- Next, select “Inspect equipment on the table”to assemble the prototype parts.
- After that, return it to the Explorer to complete the chase.
This will unlock the sampling device upgrade for your rod. The sampling device has the ability to catch deep fish in a dredge. If you have a research part, I would recommend using it on the rod after unlocking the sampling device. This will unlock the Abyssal Line upgrade for your fishing rod, which will allow you to fish for Hadal.
