Apple rumored to replace iPhone leather cases with new woven cases from iPhone 15 onwards

Apple is touted to announce the new iPhone 15 series at an upcoming event in September if it chooses to follow the regular update cycle. There are several rumors about the iPhone lineup. However, a particular rumor now claims that Apple will bring a new set of accessories for upcoming iPhones.

Around 10 days, ago, two prominent leakers claimed that Apple would not release leather cases for this year’s iPhone lineup. Now, it has been revealed that Apple is planning to introduce a new woven-style case for iPhones starting from iPhone 15 onwards.

UnclePan, a leakster who posts information about Apple products on Weibo and has a credible past record, says that the new iPhone 15 case will feature a woven-style design and the case will be made from a leather alternative.

He shared some pictures on Weibo to show what the upcoming leather-alternative case will look like. In the images, the case seems to carry a different texture. The case is touted to be made of a patchwork of two materials, which are leather alternatives and considered to be more environment efficient as compared to leather.

While there is not much information available about the materials as of now, it is claimed that Apple’s move towards replacing leather cases is directed towards an environmentally sustainable material.

Leather cases have a high carbon footprint and Apple in its mission to cut down carbon footprint could take this decision to replace leather cases with an environmentally friendly option.

Dan Rui, the leakster who previously shared reports of Apple discontinuing leather cases, has also shared images of upcoming woven cases. He says, “I’ve heard that the official case for the iPhone 15 Pro lineup is supposed to be a patchwork of these two materials. In place of the Leather Case.”

While there are distinct colors shown in the images, it cannot be said that these would be the official colors in which Apple will launch the covers.

If the rumors of Apple discontinuing leather iPhone cases turn out to be true, it will be a strange move from Apple’s end as leather cases are an important part of Apple’s iPhone accessories. The company first released a leather case for iPhone 5s in 2013. Since then Apple has released leather cases for every iPhone ever released to date.

Rumors regarding braided and lengthy USB-C charging cables for the iPhone 15 series also emerged recently. Moreover, it is also claimed that the new charging cables will be color matched with the iPhone’s shades.

It seems that Apple is planning a major overhaul for iPhone accessories this year.
