Apple is finally ready to shift completely to USB-C charging ports as we are expecting the company to announce the new iPhone 15 series with USB-C ports. Now, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has revealed that iPhones are not the only Apple devices that will get USB-C charging ports this year.
In a recent report, Gurman has mentioned that Apple is planning to bring AirPods with USB-C charging ports at the fall event which is scheduled for September 12.
He said, “To match the new iPhones, Apple will introduce updated AirPods at the event that include a USB-C charging port.”
This statement does not reveal which AirPods will Apple announce with a USB-C charging port as the company sells four models of AirPods currently – AirPods 2, AirPods 3, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Max.
If we put things into perspective, AirPods 3 were released two years ago and they are definitely due for an upgrade. AirPods Pro 2, on the other hand, are fairly new and were announced just a year ago alongside the iPhone 14 series. Therefore, releasing an upgraded version with just a USB-C port as an addition is quite very unlikely.
AirPods Max were released three years ago and they are in for a major upgrade. However, disappointing sales might push Apple to discontinue the pricey AirPods altogether. But, we are still hoping that Apple will revive AirPods Max with an improved design and USB-C port.
This leaves us with AirPods 2, which were released in 2021 and it would make no sense to upgrade a two-year-old device with a new charging port.
Therefore, we are quite curious about Apple’s announcement regarding AirPods at the event. It would be interesting to see which AirPods model would get the USB-C upgrade. We have our bet on AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Max.
If Apple is finally bidding goodbye to the Lightning port, it has a couple of more accessories that need an upgrade – the Magic Mouse with the notorious charging port and the Magic Keyboard.
We could see Apple announce new accessories with the USB-C port at the event.
Talking about the event, Apple is expected to announce four new iPhones – iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max (or iPhone 15 Ultra). We will also see Apple introducing us to the new Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
