There’s a slim chance the iPhone 14 Pro could replace Lightning with a USB-C port

It’s been over a couple of months since Apple introduced the new iPhone 13 series. The company launched its new iPhones with a bigger battery, a smaller notch, and larger camera sensors. Apple didn’t mess around with the design too much and released the 2021 iPhone with the same design as the iPhone 12. One of the most requested features of the upcoming iPhone 14 series is the inclusion of a USB Type-C port. Apple released the iPhone 5 series with a Lightning port, and since then, all iPhone models have been equipped with a charging connection port. It looks like Apple is finally introducing a USB Type-C port on the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Rumor has it that the iPhone 14 Pro will have a USB Type-C port

According to sources LeaksApplePro and iDropNews, Pro models in 2022 may ship with a USB Type-C port via Lightning. The report says data transfer speeds may be one of the reasons Apple ditched Lightning in favor of USB Type-C. The Lightning port on iPhone 13 Pro models supports USB 2.0 speed. In comparison, USB Type-C supports USB 3.0, which provides faster read and write speeds. With faster sports, it would be easier for people to quickly transfer ProRes videos from their iPhone Pro models to a Mac or desktop computer.

It won’t be a surprise if the USB Type-C port is reserved for Pro models next year. According to the report, standard iPhone models may receive a universal standard port in 2023. Apple’s iPad Pro line and iPad Air were among the first to get a USB Type-C port over Lightning. The new iPad mini also features a USB Type-C port.

Another reason for Apple to switch to a USB Type-C port is to avoid legal issues with the European Union. The regulator advised Apple and other OEMs to have a universal Type-C port on their devices and reduce e-waste. Apple is finding ways to overcome these issues, but with additional pressure from other countries, it looks like 2022 will finally be the year we see an iPhone with a USB Type-C port. According to this, Apple can also play the environment map and run its iPhone cable-free, stating that there are several USB Type-C cables that users can have with them.

However, an iPhone with a USB Type-C connector is always a welcome move. However, these are just rumors and it is best to bring a salt truck with you.
