GM begins deliveries of its first electric Hummers

GM introduces its first electric Hummer, an imposing luxury car.

Electric vehicles are becoming more and more numerous in manufacturers’ catalogs. And manufacturers that don’t offer it yet are actively working on it. We have learned that General Motors (GM) intends to offer an electric version of the iconic Hummer. Done, already the first deliveries.

GM unveils its first electric Hummer

The next chapter in GM’s electrification strategy is officially open. The Verge reports that GM has begun delivering its first electric Hummers as promised, with the first “super truck”(Editio 1) rolling off the production lines at the Factory Zero plant in Hamtramck, Michigan. The manufacturer did not name the lucky first buyer, but this person clearly put his hand in his pocket to show everyone that this is an Edition 1, since the car costs just $110,295.

A luxury car that imposes it

Other options will have to wait. Indeed, the $99,995 3X model (which drops power from 1,000bhp to “only”830bhp) isn’t expected until fall 2022. The 2X version is priced at $89,995 with 625 hp. not until spring 2023. Best case scenario. And the most affordable model, still $79,995, will have to wait until spring 2024. All of these versions, except for the base one, have a power reserve of 480 km or more. The basic version will have to be content with 400 km of run on a single charge.

With this price positioning, Tesla, Hyundai and other competitors in the electric car market have nothing to worry about. This electric Hummer is clearly a luxury vehicle that will be sold in very limited numbers. At the same time, GM does not seek popularity here. It’s just the first mainstream car to use Ultium battery technology, so to speak, which will be used in many of GM’s future electric vehicles, including the Cadillac Lyriq and Chevrolet Silverado. The Hummer is the brand’s flagship vehicle and a response to manufacturers like Tesla and Rivian.
