Crysis 4 announced by Crytek

GPUs around the world must be shaking right now as Crytek just confirmed that Crysis 4 is in development. The next chapter of the Crysis franchise is still in the early stages of development, so the release window is still far away.

Considering how much the reputation of the series depends on the technical prowess of the games, the game is likely to spend a significant amount of time in development. The series will again be led by Crytek.

The Crysis franchise has been seemingly on hold for most of the last decade with no plans after the third installment in the series. However, in 2021, the Remastered Trilogy was released, which seems to have attracted many new fans to the series and revived interest in the franchise.

Crysis 4 is currently in the early stages of development at Crytek

Gamers of 2007 will surely remember the cultural phenomenon and viral internet sensation that was the original Crysis, powered by the amazing CryEngine. The game had a reasonably interesting gameplay loop, but most of the attention the game has garnered has been for its GPU-fueled graphics and visual fidelity.

The game quickly gained a reputation as one of the most visually impressive games that can push the GPU to its limits. Soon enough “Can it run Crysis?”became a popular internet meme, and the series got off to a decent start.

The sequel received mixed reviews, as Crytek appeared to be sacrificing the original game’s visual fidelity for mainstream appeal. The game fared well financially, well enough to warrant a sequel.

The third installment in the series was again met with mixed reception, with the gaming community generally agreeing that the game was not quite the pinnacle of the series that many had hoped for. However, given how popular the new Remastered Trilogy has been, there seems to be a lot of interest in a new Crysis game, and it could be Crytek’s chance to deliver unrivaled interactive tech power.
