Arrival takes a first look at its first small city electric car

The arrival gives you the first glimpse of your car, a city car designed and built for shared travel.

After the partnership was announced a few months ago, Arrival is today giving Arrival a glimpse of its electric car, The Car, thought and designed for ride-sharing with Uber for the first time. A very large panoramic roof, folding front seat and room for larger passenger legs in Rolls Royce, according to the manufacturer, no less. Presentation.

Arrival gives a first look at your car

Arrival is a young manufacturer that regularly makes headlines as its electric technology advances, be it vans, buses or batteries. In addition to being headquartered in London, Arrival has expanded to the United States with headquarters in Charlotte as well as a van manufacturing plant. We learned last week that Arrival plans to rebuild a large $11.5 million High Voltage Battery Module (HVBM) plant in Charlotte.

Last May, the brand announced a new partnership with Uber to design and develop an electric rideshare-specific vehicle primarily targeted at European markets. Arrivals then explained that he invited Uber drivers to be part of the design process to make sure this Arrivals car was right for their needs. And today we get our first look at a fully functional Alpha prototype.

A city car built for commuting

Through a press release, Arrival shared all of this information with a nearly five-minute introductory video featuring two Uber drivers who were involved in development. The Arrival Car has twice the legroom of a car of the same size, according to the manufacturer, and was designed with high mileage in mind. Arrival claims that such a vehicle used by an Uber driver, for example, travels between 45 and 50,000 km per year, compared to “only”12,000 km for a “regular”vehicle.

Thus, Arrival Car joins the brand’s buses and vans. Thus, with the help of Uber and its drivers, Arrival was able to develop this Alpha prototype in just six months, thanks in part to a new design method. Tom Elvidge, head of Arrival, explained in part:

This is a very important step for the arrival, and today we are happy to take a look at the arrival car for the first time. Over the past six months, we’ve been working with Uber drivers to create a vehicle that meets the needs of the industry and makes it affordable, durable and pleasing to the eye. The electrification of collective travel will play a critical role in reducing vehicle emissions in cities around the world, providing a sustainable multimodal transportation system for communities. We support drivers in this transition by developing the best products to further enhance the experience for them and their passengers while making the city air cleaner.

Arrival plans to begin testing its vehicle soon and will take feedback into the design phase of Gamma to create the best vehicle for shared travel. To be continued!
