A new teaser video uploaded to the Oppo Twitter handle shows a new retractable camera sensor that protrudes outwards. The text on the camera module reveals that the device has a 1/1.56-inch camera sensor with a 50mm focal length and f/2.4 aperture. Oppo didn’t go into details about its “in-house pop-up camera”. The teaser video shows the sensor coming out after opening the camera app. It is unknown if this camera sensor will be used for telephoto zooms or simply fit into a larger sensor inside the camera module.

Despite the fact that the camera sensor popped out, the unknown Oppo smartphone will be water resistant. Oppo’s teaser video also reveals that the retractable camera module will also have some form of drop resistance in the event of an accidental drop. We can expect a similar mechanism found in pop-up cameras, in which the camera module returns immediately after a fall is detected. More details about the camera module will be revealed at the Inno Day event on December 14th.
The company is also rumored to be unveiling a premium/flagship smartphone at the annual event. Rumor has it that it could be the Find X4 series, which is rumored to feature the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Oppo is also rumored to unveil a new foldable smartphone at its annual event in December 2021.
