Smartphone manufacturer Micromax has announced the launch of its first True Wireless Stereo Earbuds. Called the Micromax Airfunk 1 and Airfunk 1 Pro, they will be on sale on Flipkart and micromaxinfo.com from 12:00 pm today. The Airfunk 1 and Airfunk 1 Pro are priced at $16 and $33 respectively, putting them in competition with similar devices from Realme, boAt and others. Clearly, the company is trying to take advantage of the growing market for TWS earphones and counter Chinese manufacturers, just like in the smartphone segment.

Micromax AirFunk 1 Pro will be available in five colors – black, white, blue, yellow and red. Qualcomm QCC3040 chipset is installed inside the device, but it does not support active noise cancellation (ANC). Instead, the device features Environmental Noise Cancellation (ENC), which is just a fancy way of saying it supports passive noise cancellation. Unlike ANC, which actively generates sound waves to cancel out ambient noise, passive noise cancellation relies solely on the build quality of the headphones and cancels out ambient noise.
The company also promises 32 hours of playback on these devices, including 7 hours on a full charge and the rest via the charging case. The AirFunk 1 Pro will support gesture control like all other TWS earphones and Micromax says it will work with both Siri and Google Assistant. The fact that it supports both assistants should mean AI support will be nothing like what we see on the Pixel Buds and Pixel Buds-A headphones.
The AirFunks 1 Pro is also IP44 certified, which means they are not water and dust resistant. IP44 means the headphones will be able to withstand water splashes from all directions, which is pretty much the same as being splash-proof. Basically, this means that you should not wear them while swimming or in the rain.

On the other hand, the Micromax AirFunk 1 has a voice change feature that allows a female voice to switch to voice and vice versa. Micromax says this feature is meant to be used as a prank, though it’s not hard to see how someone could abuse something like this.
The AirFunk 1 also has touch controls like the AirFunks 1 Pro and supports both Siri and Google Assistant. The IP44 certification also remains on this device.
Micromax AirFunks 1 and AirFunks 1 Pro will be available for shipping with over 18,500 pins along with the COD option.
