Samsung didn’t show up for its big Exynos 2200 launch and didn’t say why

So here’s the crazy story. Samsung was supposed to have a big SoC launch, but it didn’t happen. Samsung has not canceled or postponed the event. The January 11th date was announced and we even posted about it, but when it came time for the event, nothing happened! Samsung declined call and rejection due to major product launch. It’s the end of business and the company has yet to respond to the hundreds of press inquiries that are no doubt flooding its inbox, including ours! Samsung stood up to the entire tech industry, and now will not say why. Nobody knows what’s going on.

Samsung announced the Exynos 2200 event just 12 days ago, saying “stay tuned in to see the next Exynos with a new RDNA 2 based GPU on January 11, 2022.”(RDNA 2 is an AMD GPU architecture). In addition to the tweet from the official @SamsungExynos verified account, the company also cut a promo video ending with the date January 11, 2022. You can still watch it on archive.org. The closest Samsung has done to communicate the status of the Exynos 2200 is to delete their tweets promoting the show.

With no official word on what’s going on, we can only turn to the rumor mill, which is currently on fire, for answers. You have to take this next moment with a pinch of salt, but on January 10 – before it was clear there would be no Exynos event – connected leaker Samsung Ice Universe tweeted that “Samsung has delayed the release of the Exynos2200.”Another leaker, Dohyun Kim, claims that the Exynos 2200 will be completely removed from the Galaxy S22 lineup. Instead of the usual Exynos split for some regions and a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip for other regions, each Galaxy S22 will use a Snapdragon chip. How Samsung will be able to do this a month before launch is unclear, but we will need to find out what the actual release date of the S22 is.

With everything going on in the world, to announce a delay would be frivolous. But I’ve never seen a major tech company just not come to their own event. Instead of a return, this is a new low for the Exynos division. We’ll update this article if Samsung ever gets together and makes a statement. We are all waiting.
