Sony Interactive Entertainment: Acquisitions will continue to strengthen the PlayStation brand

More acquisitions are planned within Sony Interactive Entertainment over the next few weeks or months.

Having spent at least $3.6 billion to acquire Bungie, Sony Interactive Entertainment is committed to continuing to invest in the video game industry and as such further acquisitions are coming according to CEO Jim Ryan: “ We should definitely expect more. We are far from complete. We have a long way to go with PlayStation. Personally, I’m going to be spending a lot of time with Pete and the Bungie team, making sure everything runs smoothly and that autonomy is synonymous with well-being. But in other parts of the organization, we still have a lot to do.»

Sony’s next target could be a Japanese publisher. Square Enix and Capcom are two names that appear frequently on social media, forums, and some analysts’ speeches. They are the perfect fit to join the Japanese giant’s PlayStation family and are also longtime partners. Note that Bandai Namco could also be an important option given the optimal synergy between the two companies.

Sony doesn’t answer Microsoft with Bungie

The Bungie takeover has been in the works for five or six months and is not a reaction to Microsoft’s Activision acquisition of Blizzard: “These conversations have been going on for months and certainly predate the activity we’ve seen this year. From our perspective, it’s about doing what we think is right for PlayStation and doing what we think is right to take PlayStation to places we’ve never been before.»
