Sony Mobility: new subsidiary for electric vehicles, robots and drones

In order to move faster and make new proposals for the development of mobility, Sony announces the creation of Sony Mobility, with which the Japanese company intends to explore entering the electric vehicle market.

From next spring, Sony Mobility, a Sony Group corporation, will strive to make the best use of artificial intelligence and robotics technologies to help create a world where everyone can live in harmony with robots every day, convey emotions to people and support society. With Vision-S that promotes mobility, as well as AIBO (artificial intelligent robot) autonomous entertainment robot and Airpeak drone, Sony will strive to create new value in many areas.

Three markets in which Sony Mobility will operate

  • Vision-S, an electric vehicle being developed by various partners including Magna Steyr. Two versions: a sedan, which has been tested on public roads for many months, and an SUV.
  • AIBO, a robot dog developed by Sony CSL (Sony Computer Science Laboratories) for over 20 years. The fifth generation is currently being prepared.
  • Airpeak S1, a professional drone (the smallest in the world) equipped with Alpha full-frame hybrid camera, exclusive motor, propeller, control system and detection technology, giving it great maneuverability for dynamic and accurate flight. Sales started in the USA.
