Sony PlayStation Now January 2022 Games Announced: Mortal Kombat 11, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age & More

Cloud-based game streaming service Sony PlayStation Now announced the addition of six new games in January 2022. The latest announcement comes with three new games that Sony has added to its increasingly outdated PlayStation Plus game subscription service, which offers gamers three games for a monthly subscription fee.

New games added to Sony PlayStation Now include the following:

  • Mortal Kombat 11
  • Final Fantasy XII: Age of the Zodiac
  • Unleashed Fury
  • Unturned
  • Super Time Force Ultra
  • Kerbal Space Program: Extended Edition

Sony’s game streaming service PlayStation Now sits alongside other similar offerings from competing brands such as Microsoft’s Project xCloud for the Xbox gaming platform, Valve’s streaming service, Nvidia’s GeForce Now, Google’s Stadia, and more. Sony, for its part, already offers a variety of games that can be streamed and played through the service. The latter is compatible with Sony PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 game consoles, as well as on PC.

In order to play PC games, Sony requires users to have at least Windows 10 and connect a compatible controller to the PC. Gamers can then log into their PlayStation Network accounts on PC and stream games from the available Sony PlayStation Now library.

The game library is rotating, which means that once added, games don’t stay in the PS Now collection forever. For example, the official PS Now game listing page shows games like Mafia: Definitive Edition that will be available until February 22, 2022, while The Last of Us: Part II expired from the network on Monday, January 3. Other games such as Fallout 76, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Doom and God of War are available online right now, along with the aforementioned new games that have been added to the platform.

While Sony’s game streaming service PlayStation Now is relatively new and is finding a large user base, the company is facing increasing criticism of PS Plus’ offerings, the game subscription service. The latter has been criticized for offering outdated and non-essential games to paying customers, especially at a time when Microsoft, with its rival subscription service Xbox Game Pass, expanded its subscription model offering with more new and updated games to play for less.
