Google Search Dark Mode: How to Enable Dark Theme for Google Search on PC and Smartphone

Google recently rolled out a dark theme for Google search pages on the desktop. Dark mode for its search apps on Android and iOS has been around for quite some time.

You can now officially apply the dark theme on the Google homepage as well. Google says this feature will be rolled out within the next few weeks. In this article, we will look at how to enable dark themes for Google search on PC and smartphones.

How to Enable Dark Mode for Google Search on PC

Here is how you can easily enable dark mode for Google search on PC by following these simple steps:

  1. Go to www.google.com

2. Click the “Settings”button in the lower right corner.

3. Click Search Settings.

4. Click “Appearance”on the left.

5. Select “Dark”and click “Save”.

In the appearance settings, you can also select Default Device, which will set the mode to light or dark depending on your system settings. After you set dark theme in google search, google homepage, search results page, google settings page.

Alternatively, you can go to Settings > Search Settings and click Dark Theme: Off from the pop-up menu.

Unfortunately, there is no option to set dark mode based on the time of day, which is a common option for dark mode settings in apps and services.

How to Enable Dark Mode for Google Search on Your Smartphone

Dark mode in the Google Search apps for Android and iOS matches the color scheme of the device. If your Android device is in dark mode, the Google search app and Google Discover (if available) will automatically switch to the dark theme.

Some Android devices offer users the option to manually set a dark theme. Here’s how you can enable dark themes on the Google apps for Android and iOS.

1. Open the Google Search app.

2. Click on your profile icon in the top right corner.

3. Click “Settings”> “General”.

4. Scroll down and click Subject.

5. Select “Dark”.

Note that the dark theme is only available for Google search in the Google app, not for Google search in Chrome. While you can apply a dark theme to Google Chrome, there is no option to turn Google search results in Chrome for Android/iOS to match the dark theme. Hopefully, in the future, Google will bring Google Dark Search Mode to Chrome for Android.

Google Search Dark Mode only applies the dark theme to Google search results pages, while you can apply the dark theme to all web pages and their content using a Chrome extension.

Google Chrome also has an experimental feature flag that adds a dark theme to all web content. Here is how to enable it −

1. Go to chrome://flags.

2. Search for “Enable dark mode for web content”.

3. Click “Default”and select “Enabled”from the drop-down menu.

4. Restart Google Chrome.
