Unveiled as part of Google’s “What’s New in Android for Cars”session, perhaps the most important thing to come is the massively redesigned Android Auto interface, designed and built for navigation, media control and communication while driving. So you can see your routes, your music and text messages at the same time. This means you can quickly pause a song or see a new message without having to scroll through multiple menus.
In addition to this, Google is also improving its support for screen layouts to better tailor the information presented to the ever-growing variety of vehicle screen formats. Whether you have a very large screen or a small vertical panel, the Android Auto UI will always show you all the most important information. And to improve hands-free handling, the Google Assistant will become more responsive to certain actions, such as calling back after a missed call, when a text message arrives, and more.

Finally, for owners of Android Automotive-based vehicles (such as newer vehicles from Fort, Volvo, and others), Google options are available with improved support for video streaming apps. A few months ago at CES, Mountain View announced the ability to watch YouTube clips, and today they are preparing to release the Tubi TV app and Epix Now. Video playback is only available when the car is parked. Going forward, the company also explains that this will allow passengers to cast their phone’s content to the car’s built-in screen, but no date has been given for the feature’s availability.
