Apple recently released Mac Studio with a brand new M1 Ultra chip. The new M-series chip was the latest addition to the M1-series. Apple will soon release new MacBooks with the new M2 chip. Rumors initially circulated that the company would release a new MacBook Air and a Pro model with the M2 chip. However, it looks like the launch date could have been pushed back further.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman (via MacRumors) claims that the new MacBook Air M2 won’t arrive until the second half of 2022. Let’s take a look at the new MacBook Air M2 specs, launch schedule, and other leaked details.
Apple MacBook Air M2 launch delayed
It has been reported that Apple originally planned to release its new MacBook Air M2 in the first half of 2022. However, the launch is delayed by several months. Gurman did not give an exact launch month, but claims that Apple will introduce a new M2-based Air in the second half of 2022. The 9to5Mac report also claims that Apple will release 13-inch MacBooks later this year.
The upcoming entry-level MacBook is expected to feature a new design. It is codenamed Stalen and has model number J413. Apple will release a laptop with MagSafe support, which will be similar to the MacBook Pro M1 Pro, M1 Max models. The Air laptop will feature a 13.3-inch display with thick white bezels around the screen. It will still have two USB Type-C Thunderbolt ports and a white keyboard layout.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously said production of the Air would begin in the late second or early third quarter. This means that Apple could release the new M2 laptop around September or October. In comparison, the M1 models were launched in November 2020.
Along with the Air, Apple may also launch a 13-inch MacBook Pro with an M2 processor. The base Pro model will not ship with the ProMotion display, and Apple will still only offer two USB Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports on the M2 Pro model. Other details about the laptop remain unknown. We will share more information as it becomes available.
