BlackBerry would abandon its 5G smartphone project

The BlackBerry 5G smartphone project would have been abandoned. The brand seems to have completely turned the page on mobile.

It’s been a very long time since we’ve seen a new BlackBerry smartphone on the market, but some of you may recall that the company hinted in 2020 that it might indeed release a new model. Indeed, there have been reports that a new 5G device is in development internally. Today, two years later, it seems that this project is, unfortunately, abandoned.

The BlackBerry 5G smartphone project would have been abandoned

According to a forum post by CrackBerry founder Kevin Michaluk, several sources familiar with the matter have confirmed to him that the BlackBerry 5G smartphone project is dead. For those who don’t know, the device must have been manufactured by OnwardMobility since BlackBerry stopped making smartphones a few years ago.

The brand seems to have completely turned the page on mobile.

Since then, the company has offered its BlackBerry brand to a number of companies such as TCL. OnwardMobility was the last to acquire this license to use the brand, but BlackBerry devices do not appear to be in the company’s plans. If this message is true, of course.

In the end, it’s a pity that this device never saw the light of day, but once again, in the market that exists today, it is very difficult to imagine that the BlackBerry brand can have any influence. And at the same time, the company now seems poised to leave the mobile industry behind, as we recently learned that the company will sell all mobile device patents it still holds.
