Powerful ergonomic PC peripheral makes use as natural as possible. This means avoiding tension and unnecessary pressure, more support, minimal movement and, if you’re at a desk, helping to maintain a 90-degree angle in your arms and legs. Vertical mice, for example, make the palm more lateral, resulting in less pronation of the forearm and a 90-degree adjustment to the rest of the hand. What about a horizontal mouse?
On Sunday, the ConceptPix Horizontal Mouse was launched on Kickstarter. Like any crowdfunding project, I have no hopes that this product will appear on the market. I may even have less hope here than with some other crowdfunding projects, since ConceptPix hasn’t launched anything on Kickstarter yet (at least not under the ConceptPix name). Other red flags include: the ConceptPix brand has little to no presence online and its Kickstarter profile is closed; the creator of the project is listed in Hong Kong, but the ConceptPix biography lists Miami Beach, Florida; and the crowdfunding goal is an absurdly low amount of $119.
However, less likely products were born from crowdfunding. And the creators at least shared a video on Kickstarter showing an alleged working prototype. Regardless, the horizontal mouse will intrigue anyone who has used a vertical mouse or is looking for a more comfortable or less painful alternative to traditional mice.
Just as a vertical mouse is taller than it is wide or long, a horizontal mouse is wider than it is long or tall. According to Kickstarter, the peripheral is 3.15 inches wide, 1.57 inches long, 1.18 inches tall, and weighs 1.36 ounces.
Compared to other miniature wireless mice, the Dell MS7421W measures 2.4 x 4 x 1.4 inches and 2.82 ounces, while the Razer Pro Click Mini measures 2.5 x 3.9 x 1.3 inches and from 3.1 up to 3.9 oz, depending on whether you use one or two AAs. batteries.
Vertical mice have also become a trendy design. We recently reviewed the Logitech Lift, a smaller version of the Logitech MX Vertical mouse. Lenovo and Anker make vertical mice and this category specializes in Evolunet. These are just some of them.
But examples of so-called horizontal mice are few and far between, and most take a different approach than the ConceptPix device.
It’s hard to imagine a longer mouse than Counter Design’s RollerMouse Free 3, which measures 19.25 inches horizontally. But one look at it and you can tell that it works very differently from a traditional computer mouse or even a horizontal mouse.
SpaceMouse Wireless from 3Dconnexion is not wider than it is long, but it is equally wide and long (3.1 x 3.1 x 2.1 inches).
However, it is more like a large pen and as a companion for another mouse.
ConceptPix claims that the horizontal mouse concept reduces the amount of compression needed to use the peripheral. He also claims that the mouse puts your hand in a better position. One of its supposed features is that the mouse puts less pressure on your wrist since the wrist doesn’t support the mouse as much. In addition, Kickstarter says that the mouse “prevents fingers from bending too much.”
