This makes it one of the best payment methods in the country. A payment application integrated with BHIM UPI is required to create a UPI ID and make payments. Several applications are available such as Google Pay, Paytm or PhonePe through which the user can transfer money. It has a unique UPI ID or virtual billing address (VPA) that is required to transfer money. What is a UPI ID?
Extended as Unified Payment Interface, UPI is an instant payment method that does not require an account number, IFSC code, and more to transfer money from one account to another. The recipient is identified by a unique virtual billing address (VPA), also known as a UPI identifier, which is unique for each user. You can create a UPI ID from any payment application that supports UPI. Once created and validated, the payment application will provide you with your unique UPI ID.
The UPI ID format is usually “aaaa@ybl”where “aaa”is your email address, name or mobile phone number and “ybl”is the address provided by your bank.
Where is the UPI ID in Google Pay?
Google Pay is a UPI-based payment application developed by Google specifically for India. Follow the steps below to find your UPI ID in the Google Pay app.
- Launch the Google Pay app on your Android or iOS device.
- In the upper right corner of the app, click on your profile photo.
- Select a bank account to see its associated UPI.
- The UPI ID will be available under UPI Identifiers.

Phonepe has the largest share of UPI transactions that take place in India and you will probably use it to transfer money. Here is how you can find your UPI ID in PhonePe.
- Open the PhonePe app on your smartphone.
- Click on the profile picture available in the top left corner of the screen.
- Click on UPI settings.
- It will now show the UPIs associated with your respective bank accounts.

- Open the Paytm app on your phone.
- Click on your profile picture in the top left corner of the screen.
- Your UPI ID will be displayed above your QR code.
