Netflix is testing a (paid) password-sharing solution

Netflix is testing a solution that allows you to share your password with others outside of your home. A paid solution, but more interesting than paying for a subscription.

Netflix is well aware that many users pay for the most expensive plan to allow multiple users to watch their favorite movies and series at the same time and then share their account with their friends. This solution is much cheaper than if the users in question had to pay for a subscription each.

The company indicated in 2016 that it wasn’t too worried about it, but last year it made a scathing announcement announcing that it was working on solutions to prevent password sharing. Now it looks like Netflix has found a compromise that will allow users to share their password with others.

The company said it is testing several new features, one of which allows subscribers to add additional accounts for people who won’t be living in their home. However, this option is not free, but logically cheaper than if you had to pay for the account in the proper form.

This means that the master account holder will still have to pay the full price of their Standard or Premium offer, and sub account holders will also have to pay a certain amount. According to Netflix, the subaccount rate is 2,380 Chilean pesos in Chile, $2.99 in Costa Rica, or 7.9 Peruvian sols. These are the only countries that currently have this feature. No one knows if this option will appear in other countries, and even more so when.

Since this is just a test, the feature is not widely available on the planet. In any case, we hope to have more detailed information on both the respective countries and prices very soon. Until then, be patient.
