NFTs are about to take over Instagram

According to Mark Zuckerberg, NFTs will appear on Instagram in the near future.

NFTs have become a hot topic lately, everyone is talking about them, everyone wants them, everyone buys them or almost everyone. The tech giants, of course, want to be a part of it. This is the case with Instagram. An announcement made during SXSW by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg tells us that NFTs will be coming to Instagram “in the near future”.

NFTs are coming to Instagram

In the words of Mark Zuckerberg himself: “We are working to implement NFT on Instagram in the near future. I’m not yet ready to announce exactly when this will be done, but in the next few months, users should be able to integrate their NFTs into the platform.

This is not surprising given the popularity of this technology. The fact that Meta decides to use it, integrate it into their platforms, try to attract new users and retain existing ones, makes perfect sense. What’s more, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has previously stated that Menlo Park is actively exploring the technology and its various possibilities.

in the near future, according to Mark Zuckerberg

At the same time, it is quite difficult to imagine how Instagram users will perceive this news. Other companies, notably video game studios, have already made similar announcements of their own NFT support, but have often met with quite a bit of backlash from their customers. While the technology and concept of NFTs are very promising, the highly speculative nature of the latter, as they are based on cryptocurrencies, the value of which is itself speculative, has caused considerable controversy.

However, no one knows how Instagram is going to use these NFTs. If it’s just about letting users display their own profile pictures, that shouldn’t be a problem, but if the platform has more advanced ideas, including using its own NFTs, new controversy could arise. To be continued!
