Ubisoft has announced that the development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake will no longer be led by Ubisoft Pune and Mumbai, with that responsibility now shifting to Ubisoft Montreal.
“The decision is an important step and the team builds on the work done by Ubisoft in Pune and Mumbai,”the announcement said. “[The team] will now take the time they need to regroup within the game to provide you with the best experience for this remake of the all-time classic when it’s ready.”
There wasn’t much footage from the game, except for the 2020 trailer, which seemed to have very little gameplay. It is not yet clear what stage of development the game is in and whether it is preparing for release this year or next.

The game has been in development for some time, and earlier this year, rumors began to circulate that Ubisoft might switch studios, but there has been no official announcement from the publisher. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is one of the most famous games in Ubisoft’s catalog, and the remake is one of the most high-profile releases.
The game appears to be having problems in development amid rumors that key staff are leaving to lead other Ubisoft titles. Ubisoft Montreal has led the development of some of the publisher’s biggest releases, including the Splinter Cell series, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six.
Suffice it to say that Ubisoft Montreal has a wealth of experience at the helm and the publisher should strive to ensure that the rest of the development process is completed without any significant hitches.
