PS5: New update for VRR

Sony will finally enable VRR support for PS5 games.

Hideaki Nishino, head of planning and platform management at Sony Interactive Entertainment, announces that variable refresh rate will be rolled out globally starting this week: On HDMI 2.1 and VRR compatible monitors and TVs, this setting dynamically synchronizes the screen refresh rate with PS5 console video output. As such, the visual performance of PS5 games will be enhanced by reducing or eliminating visual artifacts such as frame rate issues or screen tearing. Many PS5 games will be smoother, with smoother scene rendering, sharper graphics, and reduced input lag. Previously released PS5 games can be fully optimized for variable refresh rates via a patch. Future games may offer this support after release. ”

VRR will be automatically enabled for compatible games if the PS5 is connected to a compatible TV or display: “You can also disable this option in your system settings under Display & Video.”In addition, you will be able to apply variable refresh rate to PS5 games that do not support it. This feature may improve video quality in some games. If you experience display problems, you can disable this option at any time. Note. Results may vary depending on your TV, the game you are playing, and the visual mode set (for games that support multiple modes). ”
