Samsung has quietly updated one of its popular mid-range Android tablets from a couple of years ago. While the original Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is still on sale in India, it’s likely that with this midlife update, Samsung could bring the same specs to countries outside of Europe where it launched right now. It will also be interesting to see how the aging tablet’s spec update will work for Samsung, as such paraphrases aren’t very common in the tech world.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022): key features
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) has two key changes, the biggest of which is related to its chipset. While the old version of the tablet was powered by Samsung’s own Exynos 9611 SoC, the new one is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G – the latter is clearly superior in overall performance. However, Samsung did not take advantage of this chance to increase the RAM and internal storage of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) – it is still only 4 GB. Internal storage gets a new variant, however, with a 128GB variant joining the base 64GB variant.
The display remains the same, with a screen size of 10.4 inches and a TFT LCD screen with a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels. The design has also remained the same, with the same bezels, fairly thin body and fairly light weight for its size. As for the camera, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) features an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, which also seem pretty basic by today’s standards – even in the tablet market.
The tablet is powered by a 7040 mAh battery, the same as before. The only other update for the tablet is using Android 12, the latest version of Android, out of the box. Samsung is hoping that these two updates will be enough to give the Tab S6 Lite new life and compete with recently released Android tablets like the Xiaomi Pad 5 that was recently launched in India.
It will be interesting to see if Samsung brings this update to markets outside of Europe. In Europe, the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant costs €399, while the 128GB variant costs €459. In Europe, the tablet also comes with an S-Pen included.
