Summer Game Fest 2022 will take place in June 2022

Summer Game Fest has been officially confirmed to return this year in June, hosted and produced by Geoff Keighley. The show has become a mainstay of the gaming calendar as one of the biggest summer game shows focusing on mainstream AAA titles as well as solid indie titles.

The event has grown in both scope and popularity since its first iteration in 2020. The 2021 Summer Game Festival included both PlayStation and Xbox, and the two-month event included a special game state in July. With the news of this year’s E3 being cancelled, it looks like the entire gaming community’s attention is on Summer Game Fest.

Summer Game Fest confirmed to start in June

To kick things off, Geoff Keighley will be hosting The Kickoff Show featuring World Premieres and several performances from popular indie developers like Double Fine. The exact dates for the SUmmer Game Fest have not been confirmed, but it will start in June.

There are many more big games that need updates from publishers and developers, including the long-awaited Xbox exclusive Starfield, as well as God of War Ragnarok. As always, indie games have a place to surprise the public with a unique offering.

The general consensus in the gaming community about E3 is that it has lost some of its appeal over the years, primarily due to many major platform owners choosing to skip the show. It is known that SIE announced that it would not be attending E3 2019, and since then, PlayStation has not participated in any iteration of the show.

This is most likely because platform owners like Nintendo and PlayStation have chosen to showcase their games on their livestreams and shows like PlayStation Showcase, Nintendo Direct or State of Play.

Xbox is still a mainstay at E3 and it will be interesting to see if they will be in person at the 2023 show.
