New game Tales from the Borderlands coming out this year

Tales from the Borderlands is coming out this year. A brand new story, all new characters.

2022 should be a very good year for Borderlands fans. Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford announced at PAX East that the developer will release a new installment in the Tales from the Borderlands series this year. While technically a sequel to the first Tales game, it will feature new characters in an entirely new story.

According to Kotaku, the game will be produced “in-house”by Gearbox, unlike the first opus, which was developed by the defunct studio Telltale Games. It will be published by 2K, the publisher to whom we already owe the main titles of the Borderlands saga. Unfortunately, there were no details in Randy Pitchford’s statement. In other words, it remains a mystery what kind of adventure players will be able to dive into.

Brand new story, all new characters

The first game was an interactive graphic adventure game that released five episodes over the course of a year. Players had to make choices that more or less influenced their progression through the story. It revolved around Hyperion employee Rhys and rogue Fiona working together towards a common goal, but the new game will feature brand new characters. In other words, we may never see these two again.

Gearbox released Borderlands spin-off Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a first-person shooter, in March. Also set to release this year is Frontier, which wrapped filming in 2021 and stars Cate Blanchett and Jack Black among others. Gearbox hasn’t announced an exact launch date for this new Tales from the Borderlands game, but the studio is promising a full announcement this summer. Patience.
