India qualified for the 2022 FIFA Nations Cup for the first time
During the playoffs last week, India defeated the Republic of Korea and Malaysia in the FIFAe Nations Series 2022 to qualify for the Nations Cup. In January 2021, the AIFF approved an agreement to participate with FIFA in the FIFAe Nations Series 2021. This marked the journey of the Indian e-football team last year.
India was one of 60 countries that participated and were assigned to the Middle East and Africa zone. India finished third in their zone ahead of the FIFAe Nations 2021 play-off spot. India finished 22nd at the end of the season, better than strong teams like Italy and Argentina in the 2021 world rankings.

In 2022, India was relocated to the Asia and Oceania region and secured a place to play in the play-in, which is the qualifying round for the play-offs. In 32 matches played over four weeks, India won 12 matches, lost 11 and drew nine. This led India to a second position overall in the play-offs.
