RealityOS is resurfacing. This time in the trademark deposit.
At the beginning of the year, several developers, including Steve Troughton-Smith, discovered references to “realityOS”, the operating system for a long-rumored product from the Apple brand, namely virtual and/or augmented reality headsets. Today, a few days before the opening of the traditional WWDC 2022, the name appears again in a trademark registration that appears to be associated with the Cupertino company.

This Friday, Vox Media Product Director Parker Ortolani tweeted two files filed with the US Patent and Trademark Office, files completed by the company responsible for the Realityo Systems LLC name. As Parker Ortolani and others have pointed out, there are some indications that Realityo Systems may just be a shell company set up by Apple to cover its tracks.

First, there is a June 8 application deadline, which is just two days after WWDC 2022 starts. Also, as 9to5Mac points out, Realityo Systems LLC has the same physical address as Yosemite Research LLC, a shell company used by Apple. to protect multiple trademark registrations for previous versions of its macOS operating system, including macOS. Another interesting point: in some countries interested in registering this trademark, Realityo Systems included the realityOS logo, written in the same San Francisco font, much loved by Apple.
The timing of this trademark filing suggests that the Cupertino-based company is getting closer to formalizing its ambitions in the virtual and augmented reality market. However, the chances of getting a proper announcement as early as next week are still slim. In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman predicts that the American giant won’t be holding a “full reveal”of its mixed reality headset during this WWDC. In truth, such an announcement is not even particularly expected from the Apple brand. Mark Gurman also revealed that the Cupertino-based company is considering postponing the launch of this product to 2023 due to certain development issues. In any case, the company is making great strides in this matter.
