CoolStar Confirms Cheyote Will Be Free Version After Comments Cause Confusion

Quite a few heads started spinning on Thursday after Odyssey Team lead developer CoolStar made a comment on the team’s Discord channel mentioning that the upcoming Cheyote jailbreak for iOS and iPadOS 15.0-15.1.1 “probably”will be a free release, beyond followed by an explanation of how CoolStar spends most of his time lately.

And as far as we can tell, a lot of people have taken it… well… wrong…

In a comment, CoolStar says she’s not sure people will be excited about paid jailbreak releases. She goes on to say that paid jailbreak settings have been around for years, presumably to justify the idea. Combined with the “probably”free release statement above, we can certainly see where this could have pissed people off, but rest assured, if you were one of those people, it was probably a misunderstanding.

A few hours later, CoolStar posted another comment, reassuring potential users that the Cheyote jailbreak would be free, and that her comment was only intended to describe why the jailbreak tool took so long to build and release.

So here’s what we know:

CoolStar is engaged not only in jailbreak, but also in the creation of mods for ChromeOS. Similar to iPhone and iPad jailbreak tweaks, these mods have value, and CoolStar seems to enjoy making and selling these mods, drivers, and related software to users as it seems to be lucrative.

CoolStar has spoken about this multiple times in the past, so it’s not surprising that she spends a lot of time developing things for ChromeOS users, but the community needs to understand that CoolStar is just one person and that she divides her time based on what she thinks is the most interesting and valuable.

Since CoolStar makes money from her additional ChromeOS modding, it’s clear from her original comment that she simply intended to report why there were delays in releasing the Cheyote jailbreak and see if people would be willing to pay for such a tool to change it. prioritize time away from the already lucrative ChomeOS fashion scene.

In a line tweet posted later that day, CoolStar confirmed that jailbreaking iOS is a lower priority project for her compared to developing mods for ChomeOS, which is why it’s been delayed so much despite being so close to completion. Many of the delays could be due to bugs that still need to be fixed, however this takes time and CoolStar says it doesn’t have much of it.

The tweet line also revealed that CoolStar had not touched the Cheyote jailbreak tool code for a month.

TL; DR, people seem to be complaining that the Cheyote hacking tool is taking too long to develop, and CoolStar’s response to these complainers is simple: ChromeOS development is more profitable for her at the moment, and if the complainers want to pay for a jailbreak, then that could increase her motivation work on it further. Until then, this is a free version and will be ready when it’s ready.
