Netflix is releasing a new episode of The Sandman.
Released over two weeks ago, streaming platform Netflix surprised fans of The Sandman television series with a never-before-seen two-part episode featuring Neil Gaiman’s beloved graphic novels The Dream of a Thousand Cats and Calliope, starring comedians James McAvoy, Sandra Oh, David Tennant and Michael Shin.

The Dream of a Thousand Cats and Calliope in The Sandman
In the animated part of The Dream of a Thousand Cats, Tom Sturridge plays Dream in The Sandman. Guest voices include Oh as Prophet, Rosie Day as Tabby Kitten, David Gyasi as Gray Cat, Joe Lycett as Black Cat, Neil Gaiman as Raven/Skull, McAvoy as The Man with Golden Hair, David Tennant as Don. , Georgia Tennant as Laura Lynn, Sheen as Paul, Anna Lundberg as Marion, Nonso Anozie as Wyvern, Diane Morgan as Griffin, and Tom Wu as Hippogriff.
Louise Hooper directed the live action portion of Calliope’s story with Tom Sturridge and Melissanti Mahout as Calliope, Arthur Darvill as Richard Madoc, Nina Wadia as Mother Destiny, Souad Faress as Old Woman Destiny, Dinita Gohil as Maid of Destiny, Kevin Harvey as Larry, Amita Suman as Nora and Derek Jacoby as Erasmus Fry.

We tried to make the animated version of “The Dream of a Thousand Cats”as exciting and hypnotic as possible, using the magic of real oil paintings on canvas. We combined paintings with classic 2D animation based on realistic 3D telepathic cat animations to create a strange world that is both mundane and dreamy. Untold Studios in London has created an amazing 3D cat animation. The beautiful 2D animation, oil paintings and styling were created at Submarine Studios in Amsterdam.
