The latest Telegram update was rejected by Apple due to Telemoji, improved emoji. It’s now available on iOS without Telemoji.
Ever since Apple launched its App Store, developers large and small have often been trapped by Apple’s brand verification elves. This delays the release of updates, if not prevents them altogether. The highly popular messaging app Telegram has just paid its price, according to its CEO Pavel Durov. The latter posted a message on his Telegram channel in which he explained that the latest version was blocked by Apple for two weeks, but the American giant did not really explain the reason for this decision.
Telegram’s latest update was rejected by Apple
As The Verge clarified, the update was finally able to be deployed quite recently, and Pavel Durov returned to the topic via Telegram. Apple has reportedly asked Telegram to remove a new feature called Telemoji, which the CEO says offers “better versions of standard emoji.”Pavel Durov even included a preview of these improved emojis in his post: they are very similar to those used by Apple, but with very clean and successful animations to make the platform even more expressive.

“This is an incomprehensible decision by Apple, because Telemoji would bring a whole new dimension to low-resolution static emoji and greatly enrich their ecosystem,” writes Pavel Durov in his post. It’s hard to say exactly how this feature could enrich the Apple ecosystem, but it’s pretty bad publicity for Apple anyway, especially when you know that Telegram already has tons of sticker and emoji options that go well beyond what iOS offers. Pavel Durov also clarified that Telegram’s latest update has over 10 new emoji packs and that the company will take the time it takes to make Telemoji “even more unique and recognizable.”
However, there are still a lot of emoji-related improvements in this version. The company says it is launching an “open emoji platform”where anyone can submit their own emoji packs, available to paying Telegram users. If you’re not a premium user, you’ll still be able to see these personalized emojis and try them on “saved messages”like reminders and other notes in the app. And if you click on those custom emojis, you can even see their full screen animation.
Now it’s available on iOS, without Telemoji.
To make everything easier to access, the sticker, GIF, and emoji panel has been redesigned with tabs for each reaction category. This allows the iOS app keyboard to match the Android app keyboard as well as the web version of Telegram. There are also new privacy settings that allow you to control who can send you video and voice messages – everyone, contacts only, or no one. Telegram explains that, as with other privacy settings, you can set “exclusions”so that certain groups or users can “always”or “never”send you video or voice messages. This update without Telemoji is available now.
