Splitgate goes into maintenance mode, 1047 Games studio is working on another shooter

With the popular free-to-play shooter Splitgate completed, 1047 Games is now focused on its next game, but players should be rewarded for their investment in Splitgate.

The popularity of the multiplayer first-person shooter Splitgate has skyrocketed after a big success on consoles last summer, two years after launching on PC. The game was downloaded over 10 million times within a month thanks to its gameplay very close to what Halo and Portal offer. The fact that it’s a free game also helped a lot. But today the studio 1047 Games has decided to slow down the development. However, Splitgate will exit beta with its next update, “the last major release,”according to the studio.

The end of development of the popular free-to-play shooter Splitgate

Splitgate was much more successful than expected. The studio was simply trying to turn the “study project into a AAA game”that could compete with the greatest games of the day. “But it also meant we brought in some great talent from the industry, we spent a lot of time trying to recycle old content and systems that were built by people who helped us a lot,” 1047 writes in a press release. “In a way, we saved the boat by trying to make all the passengers happy, by trying to make our boat a rocket.”

1047 Games studio is now focused on its next game

The studio is now fully focused on its next project. It’s a free-to-play portal shooter set in the same universe. 1047 will build his game from scratch using Unreal Engine 5.

Meanwhile, Splitgate has already been downloaded over 18 million times. As a thank you to players, 1047 will be adding a free battle pass with endless levels, new skins and characters when the final season starts on September 15th. 1047 will continue to release fixes and minor updates, but the game will not receive any new features after the next big patch.

But players should be rewarded for their investment in Splitgate.

In the FAQ, 1047 says that he is well aware of the time, effort and money invested by the players. If the studio suggests that none of this can be carried over to the next game, “we want to reward your efforts and your time in Splitgate, and we take it very seriously. How exactly we will do this has not yet been decided, but please know that we are thinking a lot about it for the new game.”It is also unknown if the Splitcoin virtual currency will be transferred.
