The iPhone 14 Pro may have larger batteries, but that may not mean longer battery life.

Apple-branded iPhone 14 Pro models are rumored to feature even larger batteries to power new features such as the always-on display. In addition, the display bezels should shrink.

  • What is happening? Pro-branded models of the upcoming iPhone 14 may feature larger batteries while reducing the width of the screen bezel.
  • Why care? Everyone loves big batteries, and the iPhone XR showed how big a difference just a few millimeters can make in terms of screen bezels.
  • What to do? Consider whether you should upgrade to the iPhone 14 Pro by asking yourself a few questions. Does your current model still work well with iOS? Is it fast enough for your needs? Do you think this aural 48MP camera would be a good reason to upgrade?

Apple may use larger batteries for iPhone 14 Pro

“In addition to the notch, I was told to expect iPhone 14 Pro models in general to be slightly larger and have thinner bezels,” writes Apple reporter Mark Gurman in his Power On Bloomberg newsletter . “They will also have larger batteries.”

He did not provide further details, saying that Pro-brand devices may feel “a bit bigger overall”due to the larger batteries.

So big batteries mean longer runtime before you need to charge your phone, right? This is usually the case with other manufacturers.

With Apple, additional battery capacity may be required to power new features such as always-on, power-hungry displays. On the other hand, the use of the latest 5G chips is expected to reduce battery consumption when using 5G.

That means longer runtime, doesn’t it?

It remains to be seen if the extra battery capacity will be fully used up to make up for the loss of battery life when you use the always-on display. If anything, no one expects the iPhone 14 Pro’s battery life to decrease.

Apple changed how it expresses battery improvement between iPhones a few years ago. Instead of giving exact runtimes, the company now claims that the 13 Pro Max is capable of 2.5 hours more battery life than its predecessor.

You may need a new charger

The current iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 4352 mAh battery, the largest cell of any iPhone to date.

To quickly charge any iPhone 13 battery, you’ll need a 20W or higher USB Power Delivery compatible power adapter. This feature allows you to charge your phone from zero to fifty percent in less than thirty minutes.

However, iPhone 14 models are believed to require a 30W charger that Apple will release soon, which means you may need to purchase a new charger.

All pending questions regarding the next iPhone, AirPods Pro and Apple Watch will be answered on Wednesday as Apple scheduled its “Far Out”press event.
