EA releases new PC app to replace Origin

EA is starting to roll out its new launcher for PC. The origin will soon become history.

Launcher apps – apps that allow you to launch other apps – are very common today, especially for video games. This allows publishers to group their games and users to find multiple games in the same hub. There are quite a few benefits, but it requires additional project management. With the restrictions that it imposes. Today, EA wants to retire its Origin launcher and is now launching its replacement, at least on PC.

EA begins rolling out its new PC launcher

It’s been two years since Electronic Arts announced it was working on a replacement for its Origin client for PC, and today the publisher is just starting to roll out this new app to Windows users. The company claims that the EA app, just out of beta, is the fastest and lightest PC client to date.

EA is promising a more unified design and hints that navigation will be easier. The app also seems to have improved social features, including connecting your EA account to multiple platforms including Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation, which can come in handy for games that support cross-play like Apex Legends or FIFA 23. You’ll need a personal EA ID so your friends can easily find you.

The origin will soon become history

The publisher also explains that it will soon open up its invite system for Origin users to switch to this new app. And, as you understand, all your content will be available in this new client, including your games, saves, and friends list. Note, however, that this client, at least for now, will only be available on Windows PCs. If you’re a macOS user, you’ll need to keep using the Origin client for Mac, at least for a while. Indeed, EA has clarified that it will be communicating on the matter in the coming months. To be continued!
