iOS 16: Apple will change the battery percentage indicator icon

Apple is changing the battery percentage indicator icon. This should soon correct to the actual percentage. The percentage will also briefly appear on the lock screen.

Ever since the world revealed the first previews of iOS 16 and the return of the percentage battery indicator earlier this month, the buzz has been pretty high. Many of those who are not happy with this badge give the impression that Apple could have done better on this issue. In its current form, the icon remains static – showing only a percentage – until the iPhone’s battery level drops below 20%.

Apple has changed the battery percentage indicator icon

This design decision makes the indicator less useful than it should be, since in most cases you will have to look very closely to see how much battery you have left. This is what caused the dissatisfaction of users. There was better to do.

This should soon adapt to the actual percentage

And luckily, the Cupertino-based company is working on an improved version of this badge. Apple recently released the second beta version of iOS 16.1, and among the notable changes we note the introduction of a modification to the battery percentage indicator. Now, instead of an icon that just turns red when the battery drops below 20%, it gradually drains at the same rate as the battery. It’s a small change, but it greatly improves ergonomics and everyday use.

The percentage will also briefly appear on the lock screen.

This beta 2 also brings changes to the lock screen. When you connect your iPhone to charge, a battery percentage indicator appears briefly above the watch, bringing back the feature from iOS 15. On the iPhone 14 Pro, you’ll also see it in Dynamic Island.

The next version of iOS 16 doesn’t have a release date yet, and Apple may well make other changes before the final version launches. To be continued!
