One of the most distinctive new features of the new iPhone 14 Pro is Dynamic Island. It’s a fancy name coined by Apple to describe software features that glorify the hole-punch cutout that will replace the infamous notch to house the iPhone’s TrueDepth camera system.
This spawned an interesting concept… what if we could use our jailbreaks on earlier notched versions of the iPhone to provide a similar software user experience on the notch? The concept was jokingly named “Dynamic Peninsula”.
I first stumbled upon this idea for Dynamic Peninsula after I saw a request to set up a jailbreak on /r/jailbreak to add this feature to jailbroken notched iPhones. The request received a lot of positive feedback from several commenters, while others mentioned that existing jailbreak tweaks could bring similar features.
This brings us to iOS developer Gins and graphic designer AVROK1, who each previously co-created a jailbreak tweak called NotchBanners to widen the notch on supported phones. He used the notch sizes to seamlessly provide appropriately sized banner notifications:
Obviously Apple has gone a lot further with Dynamic Island to provide app shortcuts that change depending on what you’re doing and that include aesthetically pleasing animations, and that’s what the new /r/ request seems to be asking for. jailbreak. from the point of view of bringing such functions to a notch.
As for whether this concept will materialize, it looks like iOS developer Limneos is already looking into it:
In the tweet, Limneos says he has already started testing the animations and will start adding content to them soon. These animations have been included in the attached animated GIF shown above.
Limneos is the current developer of several high-end and quality jailbreak tweaks such as AnsweringMachine, BioProtect XS, and CallBar XS, just to name a few. Having said that, we’re confident that Limneos has the capacity and skill set to mail this concept and we’re excited to see how it ends.
